On-page SEO can have a drastic impact on how well you rank on search engines like Google, Yahoo or Bing. If you think about it, you’re just telling the crawlers what your page is about, in what it focus, and who it intends to serve. And you do give this information to crawlers by using title tags, the content of a page, and image alt text. The URL is also an important factor search engines consider when they’re looking at your page.

The best thing about ranking higher on search engines is that it allows your page to become more visible to people who might be interested in what you’re offering. And this brings more targeted traffic, and ultimately, more customers.
Let’s see each one of these components in particular:

Title Tags:

Title tags are very important; they are the second most important factor considered for on-page SEO, right after the content.

You need to make sure your titles express exactly what you’re saying on the page. Their importance is seen in 3 different aspects: the search engine page results, relevancy, and browsing.

Your titles should have between 50 to 60 characters so they can display well.

Content of a Page:

This is where you place all you want to say to your visitors, and this is how primarily search engines evaluate your page to see how they’re going to rank it.

So, it really pays off to write good quality and unique content. Write about what your targeted audience want you to write, analyze their problems and offer them solutions. If you can add your personal way of thinking and opinions, they will like it even more.

Image Alt Text:

Crawlers just can’t see images; so, in order for they to recognize them, you need to use alt text with a description.

URL:

As you probably already know, using a URL like http://www.dmoz.org/Games/Video_Games/History/ is much better in terms of SEO than using a URL like http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0468569/.

On the first URL, you can see the structure of the website: you know that you’re under the sub-category history, that is included in the category video games, that in turn is included in the main category games.

On the second URL, you don’t even know the title you’re looking at, except if you enter on the page.

As more detailed you are in your URL, the more relevancy search engines will find, and will easily add your page to their results.

These are the main on-page SEO factors you need to consider. There are others like links. You need to include at least internal links to other relevant pages of your website. If you’re citing another website on a post, you should put a link to it, even if it’s a no-follow link.
When you adopt these SEO practices, it will be easier for your website to rank higher on search engines, They will give you more visibility and people will be able to find you quicker.
